  • They are easy to clean because all the parts are easily accessible and exposed.
  • Not as expensive as other washbasin vanities.
  • Easier to transport to your home.

How To Install A Pedestal Wash Basin

One important thing you should know before installing a pedestal wash basin is that the basin is supported both by the pedestal and the wall behind the basin.

  • Before doing anything, make sure you turn off the main water supply.
  • Mark the position of the wash basin on your wall. Using a spirit level, mark the center on both the wall and floor. Next mark the outline of the wash basin.
  • After placing the basin back on the pedestal, you will need to make the bolt holes. Mark their position and start drilling. While operating a drill make sure you wear proper safety equipment like safety goggles.
  • The holes should be slightly smaller than the lag bolts. Place the anchor over the holes and tighten it to the wall.
  • Secure the wash basin in place with fixing bolts. Make sure it connects securely with the back wall. Do not overtighten the bolts by any means.
  • Next, you need to fit your trap and attach the water supply lines. If your waste pipes are wall mounted you will need to fit a P-trap otherwise you can fit a straight trap.
  • Use silicone sealant to seal all the joints.

Note : For best results it is recommended that the supply and drain pipes enter the sink from the wall instead of entering from the floor.

Versatility of Pedestal Wash Basins

Pedestal wash basins are versatile because they are not limited to a single style or configuration.

You can get the pedestal and basin as two separate pieces which enables you to mix and match different styles according to your preference. You can select the option ‘Basin’, ‘Pedestal’ or ‘Full’ option if you want the wash basin with pedestal.

They are available in different materials like steel, glass and copper but the most common ones are vitreous china, ceramic, porcelain and marble.

You can also choose between single, double or sometimes even triple tap holes.

A single tap hole works well for smaller bathrooms since you get a variety of compact designs to choose from. If you want to keep cold and hot taps apart, you can go for two tap holes.
